7 Ways to Take Care of Your Fascia

Move, Breathe, Relax and Play!

What is Fascia?

Fascia is a connective tissue that surrounds muscles, bones, and organs in the body. It provides support and protection to these structures and also plays a role in their movement and function.

Your Fascia also is a feeling organ! It helps you move in space and has over 250 million nerve endings! So, when you say you “feel tense”, you are not lying! Your fascia will react to stress, and tense as a stress response.

When your fascia isn’t feeling great, you may also not feel wonderful.

How to Keep Your Fascia Happy

In this article, we go over 7 ways that you can support your fascia and hope it inspires you to take a moment for self-care and sustainable movement.

  1. Movement: Regular physical activity, such as walking, cycling, swimming or yoga, can help to increase blood flow and hydration to the fascia, promoting healing and flexibility.

  2. Stretching: Incorporating regular stretching into your routine can help to release tension and tightness in the fascia, which can lead to an improved range of motion and reduced pain.

  3. Hydration: Drinking enough water is essential for maintaining the hydration of the fascia and keeping it supple.

  4. Nutrition: Eating a healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and protein can help to provide the nutrients needed for the maintenance and repair of the fascia.

  5. Massage and Myofascial Release: These techniques can help to release tension and tightness in the fascia, promote blood flow, and relieve pain.

  6. Breathwork: Incorporating regular breathwork and mindfulness practices such as yoga or meditation can help to release tension and tightness in the fascia and promote relaxation.

  7. Sleep: Make sure you get enough quality sleep as it helps in the body's recovery process, including the fascia.
